Hoof beats sounded throughout the forest, instead of beating careful and quiet, the stallion whose hooves thudded against the ground had a purpose. He wasn't trying to keep his presence hidden, he was trying to make it known. After searching for the perfect place to start a herd of his own and to raise a family, he had finally found it. The Royal Evergreen Forest was more than he could have hoped for. It had the beautiful trees he loved and all the things a herd would need to live a happy, healthy life.
It wasn't until he reached the highest point of the territory that he really made himself known to others. Sliding to a halt, his daggers dug into the earth as his hind quarters bunched up underneath him. Throwing his weight backwards a bit, the mighty painted stallion reared high into the air and neighed loudly, declaring that this land was now his and anyone that dare challenge his rule would pay.

The claiming of mares had gone terribly. Not only had he not seen one, but alas if he had their scents mingled with other stallions. It was infuriating and frustrating but the stallion had hardly given up. He had spent weeks weaving around looking for them but there seemed to be a shortage of mares completely. Raziel had never witnessed such a thing before. No mares!? Was he cursed to roam without a lover? The buckskin stallion had, after all, been terrible with mares in the past so what did he care? But it seemed his entire existence would crumble without a purpose. He had to find one and fast.
The large stallion's trot was bumpy as he explored the region greedily. He was drinking in all of the sites, the pure untapped beauty was perfect. But the problem was with claiming. How could he tell if the lands were owned? The beautiful trees, the flowers blooming along the path, squirrels scolding him from the tall branches. It was all just like the Royal Forgotten Forest. A pang of regret washed over Raziel and he staggered to a stop. 'Cortez is fine. He's fine.' The phrase was thronged through his mind for a long time, the very thought of his line collapsing sent him into another round of worries. The only thing that broke through was the sound of a challenging neigh.
He was too late. No. It was never too late.
He thundered through the forest, his nostrils flared as he chased the scent of the other stallion. He skidded to a messy halt before the large beast, heaving a large sigh. Raziel waited until he caught his breath before he addressed with stallion with authority. "I believe you're mistaken my good sir." The stag said warmly, but his eyes glinted with malice. "These lands are mine. I heard there is another land you can take up for yourself. But this one? All mine." He said, as if it had all been just a mistake. Raziel was willing to forgive the stallion if he left quickly and quietly. The stag himself was very patient with these things. But this forest could not be owned by just any stallion. It had to be him. Who else could treat it like it deserved to be treated?

As quickly as the muscular painted stallion had claimed the land as his own, the scent of an opposing male was wafting through the breeze that blew his mane out of his eyes. Snorting angrily at the intrusion, the stud spun on his hind quarters to face the new stallion that was now trespassing. Perhaps the stallion was simply passing through and meant no harm but somehow Tux doubted it. And if this new intruder didn't leave right away, the bay tovero would make him leave. He wasn't going to put up with trespassers that were trying to take his new home away from him and he would fight with his life to keep the new start he had finally made for himself.
When the stallion approached and made himself seen, Tux could tell that the stallion wasn't simply passing through. He was here to try and claim the land as his own. And that was definitely not going to fly with Tux. Listening to the words the stallion spoke to him, Tux couldn't believe what he was hearing. Here was this stallion who was trying to trick him into leaving his newly claimed land by saying he already owned the land. That, Tux knew was a lie because he had been sure to check the territory for any presence of a herd and there hadn't been any scents either. This land had been ripe for the picking and this opposer was mad he hadn't gotten to it before Tux had.
"No, I believe you are the one who is mistaken. For these lands were not claimed until I arrived. Now they are mine so perhaps you should go to the other lands you say lay unclaimed and make them yours because you are trespassing and are not welcome here." Tux declared, his ears laying back against his head and his nostrils flared in anger. There was no way he would step down for this intruder and he wouldn't rest until the opposer had been chased out. Normally Tux wasn't one to resort to threats and violence so quickly but he knew if he wanted to be a good leader of a herd then he would need to stand up for what was his and fight for it. And that was exactly what he was going to do.

Fury was probably the only expression on the stag's face. Sweat beaded on his upper forehead, gluing his perfect black forelock to his tawny crown. His eyes were large and wild, scanning the other stallion for his weaknesses. Raziel was a lean, mean beast with an attitude and success on his mind. This place was for him and nothing would stand in his way. Battles were nothing but a game to him, hardly anything but a match to see whom was the better King. But wasn't that what it was about then? Scars littered his body from the past fights he had been in, the insults had made his heart cold to the bone. Nay, not the insults, his entire lifetime of nothing but cold had lead to a chilled personality.
"No, I believe you are the one who is mistaken. For these lands were not claimed until I arrived. Now they are mine so perhaps you should go to the other lands you say lay unclaimed and make them yours because you are trespassing and are not welcome here."
Raziel looked surprised for a moment, but then a mischevious smirk crawled along his face and he laughed heartily. "No, no you misjudge me, friend." His eyes glazed over with pure acerbity. The look on his face could only have been a hunter sizing up his prey. "No... you see these lands are mine. Finders keepers isn't always how it works, friend. I intend on taking this little beauty from you, even if it means a battle. You're a good chap, you're reasonable. We can settle this fair and square." Raziel crowed, throwing his head back in yet another round of chuckling. They working toward the same goal, the same common achievement. Raziel and the 'Paint' were working toward the domination of this pretty little plot.
But you see... Raziel didn't like competition.
Stealthfully working his way around the stag, he sized him up. He was muscle, a tad shorter than Raziel, and such a handsome man. "Too bad I'll have to rough you up a bit." The buckskin murmured under his breath. "You would be such a good beta. Too bad I don't like your rude tone. Oh no that simply won't do will it?" The stallion spoke in an un-nervingly simple and happy tone, as if he were just chatting about the weather. Unfortunately this was not the weather, this was a war that he was going to bring onto this stag. The buckskin could not let this lone stallion get between him and his prize. This entire land was his home and he had no intent on leaving.
"Well what do you say? A battle then?"

Tux was definitely not one to step down from a fight. Especially for the land he had just claimed. No, he was far from even considering stepping down and as this other stallion continued to crack jokes and laugh, Tux was already sizing him up and finding his weak spots where he would have the best chance of hitting him hard and hurting him the most.
When the other stallion finally asked if a battle would be what would come of their little encounter, Tux lifted his head high, his ears still pinned against his head and his anger clear on his face.
"A battle." the painted stallion replied with defiance, knowing that he had to win this land for his mares, for his family, for himself.
